Career
By the age of 20, he was doing business on his own account. "He engaged in various branches of trade, and was a member of the firms Preston, Harriman & Company and Kent, Preston & Company. In 1862, he built the first oil refinery in Jamestown. Early in life he became interested in politics.[1]
