German business leader who died two days after criticizing a new Covid-19 lockdown

Mario Ohoven was a German investment advisor. From 1998, he was leader of the lobby organization Federal Association of Medium-Sized Enterprises.[1] Two days after criticizing a new government Covid-19 lockdown, he died in a car accident.

Lockdown Critic

On October 29, 2020, Ohoven criticized[2] a German government statement from the previous day declaring a second Covid-lockdown. He questioned of the proportionality and legal constitutionality of the measures. Ohoven announced that he would initiate a review in the interests of medium-sized businesses and, if necessary, appeal to the German Federal Constitutional Court.

Official Accident Story

Ohoven died in a car accident in his Bentley on a junction in the A44 motorway, at noon on October 31, 2020.

When the fire brigade arrived at the scene around 1 p.m., they found the Bentley, which had driven into the central guardrail for an unknown reason. The driver's side of the car hit the foundation of a signpost. The car came to a stop about 200 m further to the right of the embankment. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was trapped with his legs between the side sills and the center tunnel of the vehicle as a result of the heavy impact....The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Düsseldorf police.[3]
