Responsible for international economic cooperation, especially in the EU. |
The Danish Minister of Economic Affairs monitored and assessed economic development.
Overview
In November 2001, the old Ministry of Economic Affairs was abolished. Two of the ministry's most important tasks, namely international economic cooperation, especially in the EU, as well as the responsibility for the government's economic assessment and the government's Economic Review, passed to the Ministry of Finance. The remaining parts of the ministry, including the responsibility for Statistics Denmark and the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority, were merged with the Ministry of Business Affairs, whereby the Ministry of Economic and Business Affairs was formed.
The current Ministry of Economic and Business Affairs has been referred to a role as subordinate to the Ministry of Finance in economic policy. Overall, however, the current ministry is far larger than the old ministry, as it includes a very wide range of regulatory tasks within e.g. shipping, patents, competition, housing policy and business support.
