Russ Baker spends one chapter of Family Of Secrets on the Texas Rangers baseball team. In April 1989, an investment group headed by George W. Bush bought the team for $89 million. Bush's initial investment was $500,000. Bush left his position with the Rangers when he was elected Governor of Texas in 1994, after a new stadium was built at Arlington, at a cost of $193 million, financed by Arlington residents, through a sales tax increase.
