As chief of the Watergate Task Force of the Watergate Special Prosecutor's Office, (1973–1975), Ben-Veniste "played a crucial role in the successful fight to secure the secret Richard Nixon White House tapes."[1]
1980s
Ben-Veniste represented both Barry Seal and Bill Clinton in the early 1980s.[1]
2000s
Ben-Veniste was a presidential appointee (2000) to the Nazi War Crimes and Japanese Imperial Government Records Interagency Working Group, which ultimately declassified some 8 million documents relating to war crimes in the World War II and post-war era.

Ben-Veniste was a member (2002) of the 9-11/Commission. He was asked why, if [[Mohammad Atta] belonged to the fundamentalist Muslim group, he snorted cocaine and frequented strip bars? Ben-Veniste's reply, as he smiled a little, was to makc no comment, simply acknowledging "You know, that's a heck of a question."[2]
