Masoud Pezeshkian is an Iranian politician and cardiac surgeon who has been the President of Iran since 28 July 2024.[1] Pezeshkian won a runoff race against ultraconservative Saeed Jalili on 5 July 2024 to replace President Ebrahim Raisi who died in a helicopter crash in May 2024.[2]
President Pezeshkian previously represented Tabriz, Osku and Azarshahr electoral district in the Parliament of Iran, and served as its First Deputy Speaker from 2016 to 2020.[3] He was Minister of Health and Medical Education between 2001 and 2005 in the Government of Mohammad Khatami.[4]
