Mindhouse Productions is a documentary production company co-founded in October 2019 by Louis Theroux, Arron Fellows and Nancy Strang.[1] In November 2022, Head of Production Sophie Ardern became co-owner of Mindhouse along with the three founders.[2]

Lockerbie documentary

On 7 November 2022, The Times reported that Mindhouse has been commissioned by Sky to make a three-part documentary on the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 on 21 December 1988, which killed all 259 people on board and 11 in the town of Lockerbie in Scotland.[3]

Louis Theroux said the documentary titled "Lockerbie" was "exactly the sort of project I wanted us to get involved with when we set up. Our values are about storytelling and being audience-friendly, and I’m not ashamed to say we want to reach a really wide audience.”

Series Director John Dower said: "I vividly remember Lockerbie from my teenage years of growing up in a Scottish household, but revisiting the event over 30 years later realised how little I knew about the actual event and the way it continues to reverberate down the years.”

Determining responsibility

Sky Documentaries say the series will “examine unanswered questions to provide a definitive account of the Lockerbie bombing and its aftermath and, ultimately, who was responsible.”[4]

Not an investigative piece

On 26 November 2022, Director John Dower told DNG Online that he aims to make a Lockerbie documentary that is “careful, considerate and thoughtful”:

“We do not think there’s been a comprehensive 360 degree telling of the story.
“There have been lots of documentaries before but it’s still an important story and there is a whole generation that do not know this story.
“I totally understand the ‘oh not again’ and am sympathetic to that, but we come in good faith.
“It’s not an investigative piece. We are setting out to tell a story, a very large story.
“Our intention and ambitions are to attempt to capture the complexity of this story which I feel has not entirely been done.”
“We are experienced filmmakers and want to do this very complicated story justice and tell it properly but are very, very mindful of families on both sides of the Atlantic. We will put the families of the victims at the heart of the film.
“I hope that we might bring a bit of further clarity to what’s happening contemporaneously.
“I hope to unearth something new, but I’m not going to promise.”[5]
