 Superfund sites  (pollution)   | |

Superfund sites are polluted areas which are requiring a long-term effort in cleaning up hazardous material. The contamination of these areas is mostly in the soil and groundwater. They are also termed national sacrifice zones, for cases when especially severe pollution makes remediation impossible.
