During the Cold War, the International Press Institute was by many strongly suspected of being a CIA front. Former directors includes many directors with ties to the US intelligence system, including Barry Bingham[1] (1964-1966); Cushrow R. Irani (1980-1982) director of the US National Endowment for Democracy-funded International Institute for War and Peace Reporting and Juan Luis Cebrián (1986-1988)[2]
