'Who the hell is this person?’ A Palm Beach area family doctor with a seemingly outsize influence over Donald Trump

Dr. Bruce Moskowitz, is a Palm Beach area family doctor with a seemingly outsize influence over Donald Trump. He was listed in Jeffrey Epstein's black book.

Moskowitz said that when President Trump wanted to have a meeting with America’s health care leaders, he was called in to wrangle together participants. “The team knows that I can be expected to decide who would be best to bring to the meeting,” Moskowitz said.[1]

Background

A graduate of the University of Miami, Moskowitz has a number of "famous and powerful" patients in Palm Beach.[2][3][4][5]

Because many leaders in corporate America have homes in Palm Beach, doctors like Moskowitz end up taking care of powerful patients, including CEOs and major hospital donors. Moskowitz sits on the boards of medical nonprofits alongside billionaires and counts among his patients the owner of the Boston Bruins, Jeremy Jacobs.[1]

Medical device registry

Moskowitz has spent years trying to start a national registry for medical devices, allowing patients to be notified of product recalls. Moskowitz set up the Biomedical Research and Education Foundation to encourage medical institutions to keep track of devices for their patients to address what he views as a dangerous hole in oversight across the medical profession. At one point, the foundation built a registry to collect data from doctors and patients. Moskowitz chaired the board, and Perlmutter’s wife was also a member. Moskowitz’s son earned $60,000 a year as the executive director, according to tax disclosures.[1]

Mar-a-Lago crowd

Moskowitz was a member of the "Mar-a-Lago crowd", three of Trump customers who attracted scrutiny for their contacts with and influence over the the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) early in Donald Trump’s presidency despite a complete lack of government service or specific expertise on the policies they were allowed to shape.[5] The troika is led by Ike Perlmutter, the reclusive chairman of Marvel Entertainment, who is a longtime acquaintance of President Trump’s. The third member is a lawyer named Marc Sherman.[6]

He never served in the U.S. military or government, but during the Trump administration he had influence in the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and the White House. He may also have had contacts at the Department of Health and Human Services.[7] Moskowitz's knowledge of government and technology was severely criticized by VA staffers.[8]

Secretary David Shulkin, a former senior VA official complained about this, saying “Who the hell is this person who practices medicine in Florida and has never run a health care system?”. Moskowitz’s involvement was one of the irritants in Shulkin’s dealings with other White House-appointed officials.[9]
