Description | The 'liquid bomb plot' after which tight restrictions were introduced for passengers aboard commercial flights. |
Official narrative
A BBC story posted on 7 September 2009 provides a convenient summary of the official narrative.[1] "The plot had the potential to be three times as deadly as the 9/11 attacks of 2001." The plot was foiled by a team under the direction of Andrew Parker.[2]
Response
The carrying of liquids was greatly restricted. Bruce Schneier remarked that "Anyone who thinks the liquid ban is anything other than security theater is just not paying attention."[3]
Trials
In 2010, Ibrahim Savant, Arafat Khan and Waheed Zaman were found guilty of the plot.
