Nuclear Waste

Under the Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982, the United States Department of Energy was legally obliged to remove nuclear waste from the San Onofre nuclear plant, but as of 2017 it had failed to do so. Lawsuits in this regard against the USDoE exceeded $6 billion as of 2017, and the USDoE predicts that they may amount to $25 billion more.
