Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (KSM), the alleged architect of the 9/11 attacks on the US, is due for trial along with four other men (Walid bin Attash, Ramzi bin al-Shibh, Ammar al-Baluchi and Mustafa al-Hawsawi) at a military court in Guantánamo Bay.[1] The trial was scheduled to start on 11 January 2021, but procedural delays – compounded by the Covid-19 pandemic closing the base – have made it a long-drawn out process. More hearings are taking place early in September 2021 but an end looks a long way off.
KSM's lawyer, David Nevin, believes the latest hearings are timed to show the mainstream media that something is happening on the 20th anniversary of 9/11.[2]
