John Macgregor Bruce Lockhart joined MI6 in 1942 and rose through the ranks to become deputy director.^[1]^[2]^[3]^[4]

John Macgregor Bruce Lockhart's father was John Harold Bruce Lockhart, a famous sportsman, spy, artist and headmaster. His uncle was the spy Sir Robert Hamilton ("R.H.") Bruce Lockhart, KCMG, whose 1932 book, Memoirs of a British Agent, was an international best-seller.

He left MI6 in 1965 for undisclosed reasons. His obituary recorded him as working for the "Foreign Office, London 1953-65".^[1]
