Item specific templates are deprecated, as they tend to never get maintained, leaving the site with a scrappy feel and making it harder to keep up a uniform appearance. While in exceptional cases, they might still be needed, the general pattern is to assiduously avoid them -- instead, upgrading the general SMW framework would be a much better bet. Perhaps you could explain what you had in mind for this template, and we'll see how that could be fitted within the existing set-up.
