Piped [1] and Invidious [2][3] are website front-ends to watch Youtube videos anonymously.[4][5]

Invidious

Invidious is a free and open-source alternative frontend to YouTube.[6][7] It is available as a Docker container,[8] or from the GitHub master branch.[9] It is intended to be used as a lightweight and "privacy-respecting" alternative to the official YouTube website. Many privacy preserving redirecting software as well as YouTube clients use Invidious instances.[10][11][12][13]

Invidious does not use the official YouTube API but scrapes the website for video and metadata such as likes and views.[14] This is done intentionally to decrease the amount of data shared with Google. The web-scraping tool is called the Invidious Developer API. It is also partially used in the free and open-source app, Yattee.[15]

Piped

Piped (https://github.com/TeamPiped/Piped) is, according to itself, "an open-source alternative frontend for YouTube which is efficient by design. YouTube has an extremely invasive privacy policy which relies on using user data in unethical ways. You give them a lot of data - ranging from ideas, music taste, content, political opinions, and much more than you think. By using Piped, you can freely watch and listen to content without the fear of prying eyes watching everything you are doing."[16]
