Elixir of youth or nothing to it? |
Adrenochrome is a metabolite of adrenaline and is involved in the formation of skin pigment (melanin). It has also long been rumored to be an elixir of youth for badly aging billionaires.
Hunter S. Thompson mentioned adrenochrome in his 1971 book Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, where a character states that "There's only one source for this stuff ... the adrenaline glands from a living human body. It's no good if you get it out of a corpse."[1]
Official narrative
Adrenochrome is NOT harvested from the blood of murdered children, to be used as a drug or an elixir of youth.[2][3]
Creation
Adrenochrome is formed both in the human body in small amounts and in the air through the oxidation of adrenaline. Adrenochrome breaks down into other substances very quickly in air if it is not stored appropriately.[4] Adrenochrome can also be synthesized, and can be acquired for research purposes by biotechnology companies.[5]
