Sir Arthur Temple "Dick" Franks was Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) from 1978 to July 1981[1], and deputy from 1977 to 1978.[2]

Background
Franks attended Rugby School and Queen's College, Oxford.
Career
A former Special Operations Executive officer, Franks joined MI6 in 1949. He was seconded to the British Middle East Office as part of the preparations for the 1953 Iranian coup.[3] Franks headed the MI6 station in the country following the restoration of relations in December.[4]
