The title given by the United States State Department to the position of US Ambassador to Honduras is currently Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
Overview
Honduras and the United States have had formal relations since 1830. United Fruit dominated the country in what was the first banana republic.[1]
During the 1980s, Honduras was a base for among other things the covert support for the Contras in neighboring Nicaragua and other regional death squads, plus support for drug smuggling other deep state activities.
In 2009, the US arranged for a regime change against President Manuel Zelaya.[2]
