Deputy Prime Minister is the current title of the deputy head of the Government of the Portuguese Republic. However, the position is currently (per 2021) not held by any member of the Government. As deputy head of the executive branch, the deputy prime minister replaces the prime minister in the event of his incapacity. The Constitution of the Portuguese Republic provides for the existence of one or more deputy prime ministers . The deputy prime minister can accumulate the role of head of government with the portfolios of one or more ministries.
The last person to occupy the post of Deputy Prime Minister was Paulo Portas.
The Deputy Prime Minister is appointed by the President of the Republic, advised by the Prime Minister.
