The Central Bank of Honduras was established on 1 July 1950

The Central Bank of Honduras (BCH) was was established on 1 July 1950.

Its establishment allowed to unify for the first time under the Honduran state the various means of payment existing at that time, and nationalized and centralized the monetary and credit authority of the nation. Before that, there were only two banks that partially covered the financial activities of the major cities Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba; in addition, although Congress had already approved the Lempira as an official currency, the government had not been able to institute it as a monetary standard until the foundation of the BCH.[1]
