The John Birch Society (JBS) is an American right-wing political advocacy group.
History
The John Birch Society was established by Robert Welch in 1958. The organization was named after Captain John Birch, a member of the China Air Task Force murdered by Chinese communists.
National Association of Manufacturers
The John Birch Society (JBS) had significant ties to the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM). The founder of the John Birch Society,Robert Welch, was Vice President in NAM. Other NAM Presidents and Vice Presidents that were in the leadership of JBS includes paper and pulp executive Cola Parker, foundry millionaire F. Gano Chance, Southern States Industrial Council leader Martin J. Connor III and E.G. Swiggert.[1]
The New American
Since 1985 the John Birch Society publishes The New American news magazine. It also operates the website thenewamerican.com.
