Researcher in philosophy of technology; my specialty focuses on a phenomenological account of autonomy, privacy & surveillance. Working on a phenomenology of being- in-the-web has convinced me that only through multiple engagements with cyberpunks, hackers and anti-surveillance coalitions can the common citizen preserve any shred of autonomy. If we do not act to embed real encryption into every information exchange, we as a species are doomed to a future of ubiquitous surveillance and control by multi-national corporations and plutocrats who actually own the reigns of power and coordinate across antiquated, and largely irrelevant, nation-state boundaries.
