Hafradah is a Hebrew word for "separation", the Israeli system of control in the West Bank, a word which would effectively translate straight into apartheid in Afrikaans.

It is a principle that the state enforces by granting one group higher legal status than another. In Israel the separation is enforced so as to preserve a Jewish majority inside non-Palestinian areas. It is racial, half a million Jewish settlers living inside Palestine have the right to vote in Israeli elections, while their non-Jewish neighbors, whose land and water they have taken, are denied the right to vote for representatives of the government that controls their lives.

Explicitly privileged are 500,000 Jews over 2.5 million Palestinians beside whom they live. A major difference between hafradah and South African Bantustants is that the borders and governance of the "Palestinian areas" have not been defined and are forver shrinking.[1]
