Created in 2012, the Defense Clandestine Service operates within the Defense Intelligence Agency to "conduct(s) clandestine espionage, intelligence gathering activities and classified operations around the world to provide insights and answer national-level defense objectives for senior U.S. policymakers and American military leaders."
The Defense Clandestine Agency operates in conjunction with Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) and the Central Intelligence Agency, and was ostensibly created as a "reorganization" of intelligence "aimed at expanding on the military’s espionage efforts beyond war zones."[1]
