In September 1948 he was one of a three-man team dispatched by its then operational commander Yitzhak Shamir to kill the UN Palestine Mediator Count Folke Bernadotte. In the late 1950's he admitted to his Kibbutz neighbour David Ben-Gurion, who was Israeli prime minister at the time of the killing and had suffered severe international embarrassment over it, that he had fired the fatal shots.
