A Hollywood screenwriter who disappeared and was later discovered almost a year later submerged below a bridge in his car.

Gary DeVore was a Hollywood screenwriter best known for action movies.

Death

Gary DeVore disappeared in June 1997, while driving at night from Santa Fe, New Mexico to Santa Barbara, California, prompting an extensive search and media speculation.[1] A year later, he and his car were discovered submerged below a bridge over the California Aqueduct in Palmdale, California.[1]

The Writer with No Hands

A multimedia project, The Writer with No Hands[2], posited that DeVore's death was the result of a US government conspiracy.[3][4][5] It also alleges that the hands examined by coroners were not DeVore's.[6]

"Many people were immediately suspicious of foul play. After all, Gary had just finished writing a film script that was set to go into production. Its contents were a closely guarded secret but Gary had told friends it would be "the hardest hitting film studios had ever seen", based on his research into the CIA."[7]
