The 2004 Yalta European Strategy Meeting, the first ever, was from July 1-3rd.
Timing
The 2004 meeting was significant because it took place just months before the Orange Revolution. At this inaugural seminar, the participants agreed to establish YES as an independent international network to promote Ukraine's European integration.
The following figures were part of the immediate circle that established the strategy during that first year, but not confirmed as participants. Pat Cox – Former President of the European Parliament. Lord Richard Dannatt – British military leader (later involved in YES security panels). Michal Kaminski – Polish politician and MEP Thomas Eymond-Laritaz – Executive Director of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation at the time. Olena Pinchuk – Head of the ANTIAIDS Foundation. Volodymyr Lytvyn – Then-Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada (associated with the initial efforts).
