Advocates use of Uniting for Peace by UNGA to stop Israeli aggression

Sam Husseini is an American writer and political activist. He is the communications director of the Institute for Public Accuracy, a Washington D.C.-based nonprofit group that promotes progressive experts as alternative sources for mainstream media reporters. He formerly worked at the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee and at the media watch group Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting.[1] Husseini has written articles for a variety of publications, including CounterPunch, The Nation, The Washington Post, USA Today and Salon.

On 16 January 2025, Husseini interrupted Antony Blinken's final press conference as US Secretary of State, and was ejected by security.[2]

In June 2025, Husseini called for the UN General Assembly to use its Uniting for Peace procedure to suspend Israel and bring an end to the genocide in Gaza.[3]

Background

Born in Perth, Australia, to the “most amazing parents,” Sam Husseini is the oldest son of orthopaedic surgeon Mr Najah Husseini, “who continually serves Palestine with an open heart” and Nahla Husseini “the most brilliant real-estate tycoon who built an empire.”

He grew up in Jerusalem, finished high school in the United States, and then went to the University of Iowa, where he obtained a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. Upon graduation, he started working at PTC, a start-up in Boston, Massachusetts, until it became a billion-dollar company ten years later.

Return to Jerusalem

In 2004, Husseini decided to move back to Jerusalem to show the only form of resistance to the occupation he considers valuable, namely, to live there and cope with all of life’s complexities that Palestinians face on a daily basis. In 2009, he started LionHeart as a training organisation that supports local companies in sales, digital marketing, team building, and leadership, skills he considers crucial to the success of any enterprise. Since then, he has expanded LionHeart into a group of four companies that focus on capturing heritage sites in 3-D to encourage tourism, team building and leadership training, IT outsourcing, and counter-drone security, respectively. LionHeart’s primary mission is to employ as many Palestinians as possible to give them a decent life with the highest employment standards.

Lion's Club volunteer

Husseini is an Aspen Institute Fellow and a member of the inaugural class of the Middle East Leadership Initiative. He is also part of the Lion’s Club, volunteering his time to serve the community through initiatives that aim to raise funds for the elderly, the visually impaired, diabetes research, and environmental preservation. His future goals are to focus more on environmental projects such as tyre, plastic, cardboard, and even water recycling. He is determined to help create a clean Palestine that can show its true beauty to the world.[4]

"People mocked my Francis. But it was he who saw the scope of the coming Israeli crimes for years in Gaza. It was he who urged for decades that some country invoke the Genocide Convention against Israel, which South Africa finally did in late 2023. It was he who emphasised that the next step in that process was for the UN General Assembly to vigorously use Uniting for Peace, a step that desperately needs to happen."
