Education
He studied classics at the University of Maryland and took a doctorate in classical philosophy from Ohio State University.[1]
Career
Gallagher taught at the university level, including as a visiting Professor at Indiana University, Indiana and at Temple University, Pennsylvania and as an Assistant Professor at American University of Beirut, Lebanon, teaching philosophy, physics and social sciences.[1]
Activities
On 19th December 2024 Dr Jihad Abboud, President of the Lebanese Chemists Syndicate, Robert Gallagher, Chair of the American Peace Information Council, and representative of Green Audit, and Lebanese journalist Yvonne Anwar Saouiby visited the impact site of the bomb that killed Hezbollah General Secretary Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut. According to a paper published posthumously by Chris Busby, "They took a Geiger Counter and found that the site was significantly more radioactive than the normal background for the area. Gallagher reported that 100m from the impact site the normal background radiation level was between 0.07 and 0.1 µSv/h. As they approached the Nasrallah bombing site the reading steadily increased to 0.27 to 0.32 µSv/h at the site itself. Measurements close to the ground gave an increased dose rate. This was 84 days after the explosion. In 2006, a similar finding of radiation at a bomb crater in Khiam was reported by the late Dr Ali Al Khobeisi, and the samples taken there were analysed by two separate techniques in the. Enriched Uranium (EU) was detected."[2] He has written an article together with Busby about these earlier findings for Al Mayadeen in September 2024.[3]
Gallagher, who was organising the project in the Lebanon lived in Beirut under the name of Dr Robert Daly. He had organised conveying these samples from the bomb sites to Green Audit via France and was killed whilst swimming in the sea [8,9] shortly after a third set of samples was intercepted by the French Customs in Bordeaux.
