Discontinued campaign for an international military force to protect the Palestinian people

Protect Palestine was a global campaign for the deployment of an international military force to protect Palestinian civilians, ensure aid and safeguard the Palestinian right to self-determination.

On 17 October 2025, announcing that Protect Palestine had closed, the campaign founder Ousman Noor explained:

With the PNGO (Palestinian network of civil society organisations across Palestine) now backing Colombia's call for an armed protective force for Palestine, there is no need for this campaign to carry on. Instead, we encourage our members to support the PNGO, led by and for Palestinians.

Background

Israel is committing a genocide against the Palestinian people. Already, at least 60,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, approximately 44% are children. All states have a legal obligation to prevent genocide and serious violations of international law for the protection of civilians. Despite international demand for a ceasefire, Israel continues with its genocidal onslaught in Gaza. An international military force to protect civilians is now urgently needed.

To: Leaders of Governments Worldwide

We, the undersigned, call upon the international community to take immediate and decisive action to halt the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people.

Since October 2023 over 40,000 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli Occupation Force, including over 17,000 children and over 100,000 wounded, with many in critical condition. While the vast majority of violence has taken place in Gaza, widespread atrocities are now escalating against Palestinians in the unlawfully occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

The world cannot remain silent in the face of such relentless attacks, displacement and systematic violence perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinian people.

These violations of international law, human rights, and humanitarian norms by Israel in Gaza, East Jerusalem, and the West Bank necessitate urgent military protection for Palestinian civilians to safeguard against further harm.

We demand:

The immediate establishment of an international military force to protect Palestinian civilians.

Immediate cessation of all military actions by Israel against the civilian populations of Gaza, East Jerusalem and the West Bank.

Enforcement of United Nations resolutions and international legal frameworks that recognise the rights of the Palestinian people to peace, security, and self-determination.

Accountability for those responsible for war crimes and violations of human rights.

We call on governments worldwide to stand against these atrocities and fulfil their moral and legal obligations to protect the Palestinian people.

Values

Protect Palestine is an international community supporting military action by states to stop Israel's ongoing genocide and dismantle the Zionist settler colonial occupation and oppression of the Palestinian people. We reject all forms of colonialism and occupation, and we stand unequivocally against Israel's illegal, expansionist, and apartheid project across all of historic Palestine.

We affirm the following values and political commitments:

Urgent Need for Protective Intervention

Our central demand is for the immediate mobilisation of an international protective force to intervene against Israel’s genocide in Gaza. This includes breaking the illegal siege, enforcing a no-fly zone to stop aerial bombardments, ensuring unrestricted humanitarian aid, and physically protecting the Palestinian population from further Israeli massacres and ethnic cleansing.

Anti-Imperialism

We recognise Israel as an unlawful colonial power operating across all of Palestine, sustained by imperialist support from global powers. We oppose the role of the United States, the United Kingdom, the EU, and other complicit states in enabling Israel’s aggression and shielding it from accountability. We affirm that the liberation of Palestine is not solely the struggle of the Palestinian people, but an integral part of collective resistance against imperialism worldwide.

Right to Armed Resistance

We affirm the right of Palestinians to resist Israeli occupation and colonial domination, including by armed resistance, as enshrined in international law.

Right to Return

We support the right of all Palestinians — whether in exile, under occupation, or within the 1948 borders — to self-determination over all of historic Palestine. Central to this is the full implementation of the right of return for all Palestinian refugees.

Anti-Racism and Anti-Zionism

We oppose all forms of racism and recognise Zionism as a racist ideology used to justify the ongoing dispossession and dehumanisation of Palestinians. Zionism defines Jewish identity in exclusivist ethno-nationalist terms and falsely claims to speak for all Jews. We condemn Israel as an apartheid state built on ethno-nationalist supremacy, where racism is entrenched in law, policy, and practice.

Support for BDS and Direct Action

We support and encourage all forms of resistance to Zionism including boycotts, divestments, sanctions as well as grassroots direct action. However, we see the need to proactively and physically stop Israel from its ongoing extermination or expulsion of Palestinians through military force.

People Power

We have no illusions that Western colonial powers — many of whom are complicit in Israel’s crimes — will participate in or endorse this intervention. Nonetheless, we insist that it is the responsibility of all humanity to demand urgent action. We therefore call upon people in all states to demand and mobilise a protective force to stop genocide and dismantle Israeli settler colonialism in Palestine.
