Matthew James Goodwin is a British "conservative" academic and political commentator. After sixteen years in academia, he took voluntary severance as Professor of Politics at the University of Kent in 2024, and joined GB News as a TV presenter.

Harassment accusation

In 2025, Goodwin was accused by a young woman working at GB News of making inappropriate comments which she saw as sexually harassing. Goodwin volunteered an apology about his two alleged verbal remarks, and no formal disciplinary action was taken.[1]

By-election candidate

Matt Goodwin is Reform UK's candidate at the 2026 Gorton and Denton by-election.[2] Goodwin was described by some as a controversial choice for the by-election, after he claimed recently that UK-born people from minority ethnic backgrounds were not necessarily British. After announcing his candidacy, he was swiftly endorsed by the far-right agitator and convicted criminal Tommy Robinson.

Connections

Deep state. "Daniel Sachs initiated a project involving Matt Goodwin to close down opposition to open borders in 2011. The same Matt Goodwin is now normalising (and arguably provoking) civil unrest in the U.K. in response to the mass immigration that he lobbied for."[3]
