Your government – our government – must finally choose to take a stand. To ignore attacks on your own citizens and the blocking of humanitarian assistance is indefensible. The diplomatic waffle has gone on too long and the issue has been brought to your doorstep, with the abduction of your constituent – Ewa Jasiewicz.

Letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer

To Prime Minister Keir Starmer,

I am writing to you, not only as a constituent of Holborn and St Pancras and your previous elecral opponent, but as someone who is sick of watching the live-streamed genocide taking place in Gaza, while your government does nothing but sit on its hands.

As you'll be well aware, the Global Sumud Flotilla, a civilian mission bringing desperately needed aid into Gaza, has been hijacked in international waters by Israel. Thirteen UK citizens are on board, including one of your own constituents – Ewa Jasiewicz – abducted by Israel less than 60 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza. Ewa and the others have been detained by Israel for simply attempting to deliver medicine, food and baby formula where the so-called 'international community' have failed; detained for challenging the illegal siege that is starving Gaza.

You, more than anyone, know the law. After all, you built your career as a human rights lawyer. You know that the UK has binding duties under the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949, the Genocide Convention, under the UN Convention of the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and under every shred of international law that Israel has trampled on. You know that prohibiting aid is a war crime and you know that protecting your constituents is your job.

But this isn't just about your legal obligations. This is about your moral duty. British citizens are risking their personal safety to stand against a brutal siege – because you and your government have refused to do so. They represent some of the bravest faces of the many more around the world who stand with the people of Gaza, fighting for their basic human dignity and against a genocide. Does your loyalty lie with them or with Israel? With the victims or with the perpetrators?

Your government – our government – must finally choose to take a stand. To ignore attacks on your own citizens and the blocking of humanitarian assistance is indefensible. The diplomatic waffle has gone on too long and the issue has been brought to your doorstep, with the abduction of your constituent – Ewa Jasiewicz.

So here's the demand: Guarantee the safety and immediate releaser of the detained UK citizens. Cut all military and diplomatic support to Israel – the arms, the surveillance, the logistics, the cover. Stop aiding and abetting genocide.

This isn't optional. This is the bare minimum of what a government owes its citizens. We in Holborn and St Pancras and the rest of Britain are all watching closely.
