Opinions
“the vast majority of journalists didn't have to be censored and bullied, because they had learned all the way through how to interpret cues and anticipate what editors and what the entire power structure expected from them. And you know, we've both been in journalism and there's tons of that, right? Which just like you just know, like if you if you pitch this story to this person, they're going to think you're like out of bounds, right? And so journalists operate in this very and academics as well, this very weird system that pretends that it's open, but is in fact very often very ideologically rigid and orthodox. And if you do not learn the rules and if you have to have the rules explained to you, you will not proceed up the ladder. You must learn to internalize the ideological boundaries within which you must stay.”
