Governing Board of the BBC

The BBC Board is the governing board of the British Broadcasting Corporation. The BBC Board replaced the BBC Trust in April 2017.

The Board is responsible for ensuring that the BBC delivers its mission and public purposes.[1]

Members

The Board is led by a non-executive Chair, Samir Shah, and consists of ten non-executive members, including the Chair, and four executive members including the BBC’s Director-General and Editor-in-Chief, who chairs the Executive Committee.

Four of the non-executive members are specifically appointed as members for each of the nations of the UK.

The Chairman and the non-executive members for the nations are appointed by HM The King on the recommendation of Ministers while the other members of the Board are appointed by the BBC through the Board’s Nominations and Governance committee.

On 21 November 2025, Shumeet Banerji resigned from the BBC Board saying in a letter that he was “not consulted” about the events which led up to the recent resignations of BBC Director General Tim Davie and Head of BBC News Deborah Turness.[2]
