The Austrian People's Party (German: Österreichische Volkspartei, ÖVP) is a Christian-democratic and liberal-conservative political party in Austria. Along with the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPD), it is one of the country's two traditional major parties.

History

During the Cold War and beyond it ran a patronage system, sharing the spoils of positions and government contracts with its duopoly partner the Social Democratic Party of Austria.

Sebastian Kurz

In October 2021, ÖVP Cancellor Sebastian Kurz was toppled in a deep state operation on "corruption charges".

Hermann Withalm	21 April 1912	19 August 2003	Austrian ÖVP politician mooted for top position in party, but failed to get post. Attended Bilderberg/1967 as Vice Chancellor.
