The 2025 Capital Jewish Museum shooting took place on 21 May 2025 when a man reportedly opened fire at the Lillian & Albert Small Capital Jewish Museum in Washington DC. Two staffers at the Israeli Embassy named Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky were reported to have been killed.[1] Milgrim was an American Jew while Lischinsky was a German-Israeli.[2] Lischinsky's body was repatriated to Israel on Friday 23 May 2025.[3]
Murder charge
The 31-year-old suspect, Elias Rodriguez, was said to have shot Milgrim and Lischinsky 21 times at point-blank range until his gun jammed or ran out of bullets. Rodriguez was arrested at the scene and has been charged with murder.[4]
False flag?
The Anti-Defamation League wrote that "conspiracy theories" were circulating on social media:
"The most prevalent of these conspiratorial posts alleged that the shooting was a purposeful and coordinated “false flag” attack carried out by the Israeli or US government to make Jews and Israel look sympathetic, tighten relations between the two countries or rationalise going to war with Iran.
"Others suggested the shooting was a Mossad operation or coordinated by Zionists to distract the world from the Israel-Hamas war.
"Gateway Pundit journalist Elijah Schaffer wrote in an X post with over 419,000 views and 15,000 likes that "Israel would kill their own" for this very purpose.
"Schaffer also drew from older conspiracy theories to back up his claim, alleging that Israel helped coordinate the attacks on October 7, 2023, and that 9/11 was an inside job to justify going to war."[5]
