Description400-kilos of cocaine and $1.5 million found on a plane at a private airstrip

The 2014 Costa Rica drug bust was a drug raid at an airstrip near a ranch on Costa Rica, allegedly owned by members of the Hilton family.[1]

History

Costa Rica's Judicial Investigation Police (OIJ) confiscated roughly 400-kilos of cocaine and $1.5 million at a private airstrip, reportedly near a Hilton family-owned ranch (Rancho Horizonte) in the country's northern Cañas region. Three Nicaraguans were among the arrested, six in all. An employee of the Hilton's 6000-acre ranch property is said to be responsible for the illegal use of the runway, according to the Costa Rican newspaper, The Tico Times.[2]

Authorities said the ring operated in Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Mexico, it was the third time the drug ring involved had used the runway for cocaine flights. Kathy and Rick Hilton were reportedly at the ranch when the raid took place, according to some sources.[3]

TMZ wrote that a rep for the Hiltons told them ... "they're shocked by the story because they don't even own a ranch in Costa Rica", adding "absolutely nothing to do with this".[4]
