Career

In 1997, he became President of the European Monetary Institute, the forerunner of the European Central Bank, taking over from Bilderberger Alexandre Lamfalussy. In 1998 he was made the first President of the European Central Bank. In 2003 he handed over to another Bilderberg Steering committee member, Jean-Claude Trichet.

He attended the Bilderberg from 1977-1983 and again in 1986. He was a member of the Bilderberg Steering committee.
