Prime Minister

As Australian Prime Minister, Tony Abbott seems to be promoting the "war on terrorism" narrative, in sync with European and North American "democratic" governments.

Internet censorship

In September 2014, Tony Abbott stated that "For some time to come, the delicate balance between freedom and security may have to shift", introducing laws to criminalise any speech that the authorities see as "advocating terrorism". He was broadly supported by Bill Shorten, leader of the "opposition", who far from questioning his purpose, declared that "keeping our people safe is above politics".[1]
