In Corbettreport 1735 (07/01/2022) they bring up a NATO document [1] and make the point, that the "Eurovision Was Created By NATO" (the quote is from the show notes). Going back to a tweet in 2016 from some twitter account that linked the document,[2] and basically said the same. NATO in 1956 wanted to have a "North Atlantic Festival", as sort of a outreach program - but the document itself says:

"The following is an instance of the publicity value of the project. The North Atlantic Festival project having recently been mentioned in London when the Information Division contacted the BBC Television Service, the latter stated that it would certainly be prepared to see that the programme was retransmitted over the Eurovision network."

So my reading is that this is a different thing. Maybe it is of some use for our article, but at present I don't see how to place this .. I leave it here for the time being. -- Sunvalley (talk) 00:35, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

I can't find any other source to back this NATO made it claim. There's one site (Voltaire in French) that hosts like 10 alternative sites with the same content translated to 10 other European languages that only uses that tweet and the pdf as source. That file does indeed speak of a Night of the Army festival, but that event already exited in 56; https://www.lemonde.fr/archives/article/1953/07/09/les-nuits-de-l-armee-offrent-aux-parisiens-une-revue-a-grand-spectacle_1977735_1819218.html. and it speaks about pulling technicans and such from that festival, so its not that night of the army.

The Eurovision network btw, is an actual EU TV network started in the 1950s. So... I'm also confused, slightly, but it appears the article is talking about an military musical festival seperate from the night of the army. That was perhaps later changed to a form of the San Remo festival...? Let's just tag User:UKpeacelibertyfreedom --Jun (talk) 09:21, 10 July 2022 (UTC) uu
