Ron Unz is a theoretical physicist, software developer, entrepreneur, writer, publisher, and now longshot US Senate candidate in California. Unz financed and ran the campaign in 1998 for California ballot Proposition 227 that restricted bilingual education programs in public schools, and has been the financial supporter of an ideologically diverse list of causes.

In the 1990s Ron Unz was a donor to right-of-center and libertarian public policy organisations the Manhattan Institute and the Reason Foundation, and was the publisher of American Conservative from 2007-2013. He was a financial backer of the far-left Counterpunch magazine and supports a $15 minimum wage. He is now the publisher of The Unz Review.[1]
