Roberto Poli is an Italian corporate executive with ties to some of the most important families in Italy and their family companies.[1]

Education

Poli received a BA in Economics at Florence University.[1]

Career

He is Founder and Chairman since inception in 1969 of Poli e Associati, one of the oldest Italian Corporate Finance boutiques, specializing in corporate finance, which in the course of over forty years of activity has engaged in various capacities in generational handovers, M&A and debt restructuring operations in many of the most important Italian companies, listed and unlisted.

He was Chairman of the Board of Rizzoli-Corriere della Sera SpA (1984) and of Publitalia SpA as well as a member of the board of directors or on the board of statutory auditors of some of the major Italian companies, including the Institute for Industrial Reconstruction, Fondazione Cariplo, Merloni Elettrodomestici, Banca Commerciale Italiana, Arnoldo Mondadori Editore and Perennius Capital Partners SGR.

He was appointed Board Member of Institute for Industrial Reconstruction from Prime Minister Ciampi in 1993 and in this role he started and supervised the Italian Privatization Program, agreed with the European Commission[1].

In 2002 the government led by Silvio Berlusconi appointed him president of the oil company ENI, the largest Italian corporation in terms of size and degree of internationalization. He held the office for nine years, until April 2011, becoming the longest serving President of ENI since it was founded.[2]

He is currently Chairman or member of the board of directors of Berlusconi's Fininvest, Mondadori, Coesia, Praesidium SGR[1], San Raffaele Hospital, Galeazzi Orthopedic Institute, as well as advisor to some important industrial families.

He was a member of the Presidential Committee of Assonime (Association of Italian joint-stock companies).

He held the chair of corporate finance at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan from 1966 to 1998.

On May 30, 2008 he was awarded the honor of Cavaliere del Lavoro.[3]
