Rene Granier de Lilliac

Rene Granier de Lilliac studied at the École Polytechnique (X42 Sp), the School of Mines in Paris and the National Higher School of Petroleum and Engines (he did both simultaneously and obtained both diplomas in 1948).

In 1948, Rene Granier de Lilliac was assigned to the Directorate of Fuels (DICA), then headed by Pierre Guillaumat. It was in 1954 that he was laid off at the French Oil Company (CFP). He was responsible for the Company's holdings in the Middle East, and in 1963 he became its director.

In 1966, he moved to the French Refining Company (CFR), where he was a director and then president. Two years later, he was appointed a director of the PSC, a director and then president of Total Chemistry, created the same year, and a director of Total French Navigation Company (TCFN). Finally, appointed vice-president of the PSC in 1970, he became its deputy director general and then president and chief executive officer from 1971 to 1984.

He attended the 1973 Bilderberg, with a bunch of other Big Oil executives and financiers, at which the "oil crisis" seems to have been planned.
