Opinion pollster with solid ties to the establishment. Admits to selectively not publishing poll results she did not like, to influence public opinion.

Dr. Renate Köcher is a is a German pollster. She attended her first Bilderberg meeting in 2018. She is the managing director of the opinion poll company Allensbach Institute for Demoscopy (IfD), which is often cited by corporate media. She has admitted to selectively not publishing results she did not like, in order to influence public opinion.

Background

Renate Köcher studied economics , sociology and journalism in Mainz and Munich. She wrote her diploma thesis under Elisabeth Noelle-Neumann in Mainz. In 1977 she started working as a research assistant at the Allensbach Institute for Demoscopy (IfD), where she had previously completed an internship. After just a few months she was in charge of her own research department, and from 1980 she was a project manager, among other things. for the market research areas of financial services, energy and technical innovations. In 1985, Köcher received her doctorate in Munich on the subject of the ethics of German and British journalists.

In 1988 Noelle-Neumann invited her to join the management of the IfD. Köcher had long been one of the most important employees in the field of market and social research, but the invitation was also based on the wish that her knowledge as an economist should help the institute in a difficult economic situation at the time.[1] Renate Köcher accepted the offer and since then has been managing the IfD - initially together with Elisabeth Noelle-Neumann, until her death in 2010.

In her role as Allensbach managing director, she also publishes columns regularly in major daily and weekly newspapers.

Connections

Renate Köcher is a member of the University Council of the University of Mannheim. In addition, she is or was a member of several supervisory boards (BMW Group, Infineon Technologies AG). She is a member of the board of trustees of the Eugen Biser Foundation, the Robert Bosch Foundation, the Eberhard von Kuenheim Foundation[2] and a jury member for the awards of the Ludwig Erhard Foundation[3]. She is a member of the board of the Siepmann Foundation, the controlling body of the ALDI SOUTH group.[4] She has been a member of the Bioeconomy Council (BÖR) since 2012.

Selective polling

In her polls of the state elections in Baden-Württemberg in 1992 and the state elections in Baden-Württemberg in 1996, the Allensbach Institute on purpose put the polls of the rightwing party The Republicans far too low. Allensbach forecast 4.5 or 4 percent share of the vote. The actual election results for the Republicans were, however, 10.9 and 9.1 percent. In an interview, Renate Köcher admitted that she did not want to offer the party a platform and that she had therefore not published the higher polling figures known to her in the run-up to the election.[5][6]
