Pascale Bruderer Wyss is an entrepreneur and former Swiss politician. In the 2009/10 she was President of the National Council.
She was selected a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2009. She sits on the Board of Trustees of the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship.
Early Life
Bruderer grew up in Baden as the youngest of three daughters. She attended elementary school in Baden and the cantonal school in Wettingen, after which she studied political science, constitutional law and social and economic history at the University of Zurich and in Växjö (Sweden). She completed her studies in 2005 with a licentiate (Master in Political Science). [1] In 2002, when she moved into the National Council for the Aargauer SP, she was the youngest National Councilor to date. At that time, she replaced the resigned Hans Zbinden. A year later she was elected to the National Council for the first time.
In the 2007 election she ran for a seat on the Council of States (the Swiss Upper House) and again for the National Council. While she did not get into the Council of States as third-place finisher, she was confirmed in office as National Councilor with the third-highest share of votes out of 15 elected. On October 23, 2011, in the first ballot , Bruderer was elected Councilor of State for the Canton of Aargau and was confirmed in office on October 18, 2015. Pascale Bruderer is the right wing of the Social Democrats and belongs to the platform that organizes social-liberal party members[2].
In particular, Bruderer focused on social, health and energy policy. She wants to get young people interested in politics, for which she received the Prix Jeunesse in 2008. She also campaigned for the inclusion of people with disabilities, was president of the umbrella organization for disabled people, Inclusion Handicap, and of the parliamentary group on sign language, and sat on the co-presidency of the parliamentary group on issues relating to people with disabilities.[3] The parliament elected her President of the National Council for the 2009/2010 parliamentary year.
In 2016 she separated from her husband Urs Wyss[4]. In addition to her seat in the Council of States, she worked as managing director of the Aargau Cancer League and was a member of the Pro Seniorweb Foundation Council.
She sits on the Board of Trustees of the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, on the Advisory Board of the Swiss Economic Forum (SEF) and the Swiss Media Forum.[5]
On January 25, 2018, Bruderer announced that she would not be running for another Council of States legislature as of 2019; She justified her resignation with the fact that she intends to reorient herself.[6][7] She gave up all political offices, switched from politics to entrepreneurship after more than two decades of parliamentary work and is now a partner and executive board member at the IT start-up Crossiety[8]. Furthermore, Bruderer sits on the board of directors of BERNEXPO AG and the TX Group.[9]
