Olena Volodymyrivna Zelenska (née Olena Kiyashko) is a Ukrainian scriptwriter who is the current First Lady of Ukraine as the wife of President Volodymyr Zelensky. Olena Zelenska was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential People of 2023.

The president and first lady's lives have long been entwined. High school sweethearts, they went on to work together in a comedy troupe and TV studio, he a comic actor and she, backstage, a scriptwriter. When he ran for president in 2019, Olena Zelenska made it clear this wasn't a life she wanted. But the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine has thrust her into the spotlight, on a global stage.[1]

Cartier jewellery

Olena Zelenska spent $1.1 million on Cartier jewellery in NYC

In October 2023, Nigeria-based The Nation reported:

"Zelensky’s wife reportedly spent $1,100,000 on a shopping trip in NYC while visiting the United States together with her husband to shore up continued support from Washington.
"According to information collected by Boukari Ouédraogo from the Cartier store ex-employee, Olena Zelenska visited the boutique during her and her husband’s visit to New York. 'I tried to take her on a quick tour, but she wasn’t interested,' the ex-employee further recalls.
"Zelenska’s visit to the luxury boutique ended up in a very unexpected manner as she snapped at the employee who was trying to assist her with a 'Who said I need your opinion?' rant. After that, according to the boutique ex-worker, Zelenska had a talk with the manager. The ex-worker has no idea what the discussion was about but the next day she got fired from the boutique.
"After receiving a 'you’re fired' call the next day after Zelenska’s visit, the ex-employee decided to share her story about the bizarre encounter on the Instagram. She has managed to sneak away a copy of a receipt containing Zelenska’s purchases while packing her personal belongings at the boutique.
"The question remains, if she has managed to spend $1.1 million in Cartier alone, how much more money has she spent during her whole shopping spree on New York’s Fifth Avenue that day and who paid for it?"[2]

Questions for Zelenska

On 5 October 2023, George Galloway posted on X:

“Readers” and “independent” “fact-checkers” are contesting the dismissed #Cartier employee’s story that Mrs #Zelensky spent $1.1 million on jewellery in their NY store. There does seem to be a discrepancy in the date on the receipts she published - a date when Zelensky was in Canada not NY.[3]
Perhaps Olena will publish her own receipt? How much DID she spend in the store? How much on the trip altogether?
How did the Zelensky’s amass such a vast fortune? How much are they worth? How many luxury properties DO they own around the world? Were the Panama Papers true? Were they sufficiently “fact-checked”? We have a right to know.
Taxpayers have given billions to Ukraine. Has it been misused? @MoatsTV[4]
