Lorenzo Vallarino Gancia was an Italian was an Italian winemaker - "the king of Italian bubbly wine" - and friend of Giovanni Agnelli.

Activities

Gancia started "Young entrepreneurs" in 1966 at the time of the reform of the Confindustria organization. He was president of the group from 1966-1970.[1] .He fought to get the association out of the shadow of its parent, breaking with the culture that he defined as "closed and not very transparent" and "too close to politics" of the organization.

For twelve years he was vice president of Confindustria, Italy's largest employer organization, with responsibility for external relations.

In addition to the family business, he was a member of the supervisory boards in many companies, including Il Sole 24 Ore. Gancia was a also director of, among other things, Riso Gallo, Fiorucci Moda, Buitoni, Perugina and Ausimont.

In 2012, he sold the family business, a winery of the same name that had been in the family for 200 years.

Away from the company, Gancia was a friend of Giovanni Agnelli, with whom he used to drive fast cars, and shared his love for newspapers. But Gancia preferred horses to cars, his great passion together with Argentina, where he spent 6 months a year, playing polo, until his health allowed him.[2]

His brother,Vittorio Vallarino Gancia, was kidnapped by the Red Brigades in 1975, but escaped unharmed.
