Lee Anderson is a British politician who was elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Ashfield in 2019. He is a member of the Conservative Party and has been Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party since February 2023.
Prior to his parliamentary career, he was a coal miner and worked for Citizens Advice.
Lee Anderson was elected as a Labour Party local councillor in Ashfield in 2015. He defected to the Conservative Party in 2018 and was then elected as a Tory local councillor in Mansfield from 2019 to 2021, alongside his duties as the MP for Ashfield.[1]

Broadcaster
In March 2023, GB News announced that Lee Anderson would host a show on the channel on a £100,000 salary, whilst also working fulltime as the MP for Ashfield. He had previously criticised other MPs having second jobs in November 2021 following the Owen Paterson lobbying scandal.
Anderson started hosting his weekly show "Lee Anderson's Real World" in June 2023. He was criticised in the same month by the Serjeant at Arms, the official responsible for maintaining order in the House of Commons, for using the parliamentary rooftop to film a promotion video for the show.[2]
Protesters should emigrate
In May 2023, Lee Anderson was accused of trying to “cancel” republican protesters after he told them to leave the country.
The Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party told anti-monarchy activists to “emigrate” rather than exercise their right to protest.
He made the comments after dozens of protesters were arrested during King Charles III’s coronation.
Sharing an article on the arrests on Twitter, the MP for Ashfield wrote:
- “Not My King?
- “If you do not wish to live in a country that has a monarchy the solution is not to turn up with your silly boards. The solution is to emigrate.”[3]
Immigrants should f*** off
In August 2023, Lee Anderson tweeted in reply to Labour MP Diane Abbott:
- "Wrong again @HackneyAbbott.
- "I told illegal migrants to go back to France not genuine asylum seekers.
- "Btw not seen you in Parliament for a few months. Are you on leave or have you said something daft again?"[4]
