On 14 October 2021, the Labour Party revealed the results of its ‘future candidates programme’ in emails issuing acceptances and rejections to thousands of politicians and activists who applied to be shortlisted as Labour candidates for wanting to stand at elections for local and national offices.[2]

Training through to July 2022
There were 360 places available; for Parliamentary seats, in Westminster, Cardiff Bay and Holyrood. Also there are spaces for future candidates in elections for Councillors, Mayors and Police Commissioners. Applications opened in July 2021 and closed 13 August 2021. The training will run October 2021 – December 2021 and January 2022 – July 2022.[3]
The UK Parliamentary selections are expected to begin in early 2022 when the new constituency boundaries are announced.
The process was created by Ed Miliband in 2011.[4]
Elitist stitch-up
The selection programme is believed by the Labour Left to be an elitist stitch-up, which is overseen by right-wingers such as Luke Akehurst.[5] The Times reported that Morgan McSweeney was in charge of the process.[6] The Morning Star reported that "non-party members were being selected.[7]

People of note
The candidates broadly range from Social Justice Warriors on Twitter, to people with links to certain influential organisations. They all have loyalty to Keir Starmer and dislike of Jeremy Corbyn in common. The Times reported that non-party members were being prioritised. The programme is similar to David Cameron's A-list, which was used for the 2010 election.[9]

- Samara Barnes, Rossendale councillor associated with 50:50 Parliament. She supports deplatforming and expanding hate crime legislation
- Ajay Maru, former Mayor of Harrow
- Nadir Mohammad, Director of the Centre For Muslim Policy Research
- David Taylor, former aide of Gordon Brown[11]
- Phil Brickell, associate of Luke Akehurst
- Adam Thompson, from the Labour & Co-op Party and Scientists for Labour
- Vince Barry-Stanners, from Unison
- Josh Tapper, formerly of the reality tv programme Gogglebox, then Downing Street under Theresa May, then onto Demos. In June 2021 he was “elected” as Communications Officer for the Hendon CLP after Labour had suspended sitting socialist members of the CLP.[12][13]
